Jena is the city of science in central Germany with a modern infrastructure and well connected to other German regions. It is home to the historic Friedrich Schiller University, the University of Applied Sciences EAH Jena and a number of well-established research facilities, such as institutes of the the Leibniz Association, Max Planck Society as well as Fraunhofer Society. Approximately 4,500 scientists conduct their research in Jena and one quarter of the 105,000 inhabitants are students.
